Check out yellow Solstice GXP. The turbo veriant of the Solstice making 260hp out of the 2.0 ecotech.

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

Idk about you but I don’t see these for sale often, and I actually like them a lot. Altho looks wide I Prefer the Saturn Sky’s creases and hard edges to the Solstice’s very round body. This Particular one is suffering from some very typical 2000’s GM problems, namely rust, and interior malfunctions.

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

Seller is asking 6500. And I was all on board with that until I saw the mileage. 166,000 miles! That’s quite a lot. Altho I have heard these engines, and their Cobalt/HHR SS counterparts are very reliable. It does make me happy to see that some one really used this car. 166k is a lot of enjoying your turbocharged, yellow, convertible over 12 years.

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

But the question is, is this a deal for an awesome with some minor problems. Or way to much for an okay car with rust and too many miles.

My best friends father has that exact car. It’s a pretty fun drive although I don’t care for the looks. I put a full (and I mean full) stereo in it for him When he bought it new. Recently he left the top down when it was pouring down rain...annnnnd it fried everything.

Anyway, I can’t tell you if it’s a good deal or not, but definitely a fun car.

the price is a little high with the rust issues, but not too far from what I would consider a good price

That much power in a small, and relatively lightweight car pretty much has to be fun. Being a convertible adds to that.

It is kinda of surprising that these things weight almost 3,000 lbs tho. But for the power they make, and especially for the potential they have to make even more, it’s not a heavy car.

Cheap... but not cheap enough considering you can get this 87,000 mile example for just $8500

For double the mileage, I’d say it’s a Nice Price at $4000- $5000... crack pipe at $6500

But I think it would be a smarter move to spend more on one with way less mileage.

I think these might become collectible one day... or at least get to the point where they at least hold their value at present levels.

Let’s see... 12 year old high mileage convertible manufactured by a now defunct manufacturer  with a small, high output turbo’d engine, visible rust and needs tires, ... All for the healthy sum of $6500. Hard no.

Not quite CP, but this example is certainly not worth $6500. I always liked the Sky more, but the Pontiac’s are cool too.

The convertible mechanism in these are hilariously complicated compared to a similar vintage Miata.

Looking online abit I’m kinda shocked how much people are asking for GXPs and Redlines. And the things is a lot of them have under 50,000 miles. Typical asking prices between 15-20 for examples with 5-40,000 miles.

It’s not unusual for a special edition car with lower miles to be worth a bit more, but thing is there are plenty of them out there. Just looking on autotrader, and only looking at manual trans ones you’ve got 15 options to choose from.

The only really rare ones are the GXP coupes, especially ones with a manual trans. Only one of those I found was 32k with 5000 miles. Some one bought that purely as an investment.

I don’t doubt that they could be more sought out in the Future but right now its not hard to find one in like new condition, with super low miles, and even if you have to have a manual trans those aren’t rare either.

So yeah I’d agree that this one is a CP at anything over 4500.

That is one thing that Miata has always done right. My wife complains that the top is too complicated on my Rabbit, it’s 5 steps and takes me about 10 seconds to put down.

2 releases by the a pillars, pull the top back, make sure each side “clicks” into place on the back and your done.

I told her is that’s too complicated that she should let me by a Miata.

I think this has a GXP markup.  People seem to ask and get much more for them than I’d think they are otherwise worth.

CP. Very CP.

The LNF’s timing chain is a major known weak point, especially the plastic guides and hydraulic tensioner, and it’s in an interference design. It’s known to abruptly fail without warning. Goes from a slight rattle at start to thrown VERY fast. Plus the actuators are known to flake out abruptly.

At the MINIMUM if they haven’t done one of the dozens of ‘upgrade’ kits this thing needs the full timing set done. Including the balance shaft chain. Which is realistically an engine-out job. It’s about three grand by the book. And you have to have the argument about whether they’re using the actual correct parts every time because GM revised just the tensioner 9+ times.

The NO CAR REPORT requests accepted threw me a bit at the end there.

Like, what if I was going to pay for the report? Not going to let me run one? Why? Is it salvage and you don’t want to admit it?

I’d pay that for a totally rust-free one. Rust makes it solid CP.

The rust is the big hard no for me. Tires, maybe. Tires would make me talk it down to $5500 or so but rust just kills it. The 2.0 ecotec is a VERY proven engine, the car is made of the GM parts bin and parts are not even remotely difficult to find for it.

I had the same rust but I spotted it early . Surprisingly the rust didn’t spread or anything, but I had it rectified when I got rear-ended, they were painting anyways . I wouldn’t worry too much.

If anything those two quarters are separate from the entire car and it’s almost “user replaceable”, since you need to remove it to access the battery.

I have an 07 GXP

Motor was running great up to 150k at which point I decided to put in a brand new one after having timing chain trouble (with this car you can expect water pump and timing chain like clockwork every 40k miles)

New crate engine with new turbo was $2599

Bought the car at 120k miles for $4,000

Sox weeks later get into a fender bender (literally), adjuster held the car for two weeks before declaring it a total loss and cutting me a check for $6,100

That means I'm a whole $400 into this car and loving it
